Every once in awhile the horn stops working in the truck, maybe once every couple of weeks. When this happens everything else that I can see is good just the horn.

It's as if there is no power getting anywhere to that circuit. I doubt its an issue with the horn itself but more the circuit when the truck is running. Has anyone seen this before and is there a fix. Thanks in advance for your help

Have you ever ran through any puddles at all? (slow or fast)

I did that once and my horns got slightly flooded. they would do exactly as you are describing.

I unmounted them and (with proper protection), connected them directly to the battery....that poor horn was spitting out droplets of water and then hitting hard for an OEM. remounted them and have never had a problem since.

OR

yours could be dying all together and you may simply need to replace them

I am sure I have put the truck through a few puddles so that could be the issue. I will wait till I have a couple of spare cycles and get in and check that out.

It happened to me this morning on the way into work when I needed it, yet it was fine after work.

This has happened a couple of times and I was thinking that it was a the circuit. Everyonce in a while other circuits act up, the blower motor for the fan for example. I think I get a relay noise when I normally hit the horn, could be wrong, but nothing this morning. Silence

I will try it tomorrow and see if its still acting up.

UPDATE:

When I double tapped the keyfob to lock the truck the horn went off. Unlocked the truck, tried the horn again and zero. Panic button on the keyfob brought the horn back to life as well.

Are there two horns on that rig, one for the keyfob-panic button and one for the road or are we looking for an issue with the circuit.

Check your wiring, to me it sounds like a ground short

Just went out and checked the ole horn and it is dead again. I was about to crawl under and pull the horn but decided to wait till tomorrow.

I concur with the above. sounds like the grounding is not all there. there are two horns in the truck, one on the left and right but they activate at the same time for all horn commands... maybe one of the relays is going bad but I would check grounding first.

It certainly gives me a starting point although I would love to see a wiring diagram of the horn circuit.

I didn't pay enough attention tonight to see which horn was working off the keyfob but I do remember not hearing a relay when I hit the stearing wheel horn.

I will know more tomorrow as well find out if if the horn works after driving it a distance

Another update:

Sounds more like a bad ground or connection.

Started the truck this morning, no horn, stopped for coffee, horn starts working as soon as I pull out of the coffee shop..

Seemed to work all the way into work, then for most of the way home till I hit a bump and it stopped for a few miles then would work again.

When the horn does go out everything else seems to be working. Not sure if there is something in the horn circuit that would knock out other electronics or it is a single circuit taking out the horn. The horn off the keyfob worked regardess.
