And Why Did The Mustang Race Me?

I was drivin down the highway today and I see this maroon mustang pullin up behind me pretty quickly, so I begin to change lanes and he decides to cut right and get right next to me, I swear we were so close that if i was in the passenger seat i probably could have touched his car, well i swerve quickly and said a few choice words to kinda "calm" myself down lol, well the dude stay's next to me and starts revving his engine and speeding up and down a few time I guess to race me, welll it got to the point where I gave in and I pressed the performance button "regards to Justin :)" floor the truck and off we went, the crazy thing about it was that I was actually winning the mini race, he was probably a good half a car length behind me untill I gave up and he goes zooming by and just kept on going, I guess the ol' dude couldnt take gettin whooped on by a big ol' truck lol. I am assuming it was a V6 mustang cause im sure even a base model V8 could whip up on my truck, maybe, but its good to know not all things known for performance can outrun anything. Oh origin of speeds, when i was in cruise control speedo was readin 60, at race time increased to 105 until I gave up, im sure those mustangs arent gov'ed to just 100 since he was keeping up but I dont know. Just dont want to be racing like that much if at all anymore.

He was just screwing with you. I did that one time with a pakistani guy that lived in an apartment complex down from me and drove a manual trans mustang gt. I was one my way back home to my apartment and i had my room mate in my passenger seat and i zoomed past the the paki and gave him a nod and got in front of him so he got the picture and jammed it and zoomed way past me and whooped my ass.

lol this dude couldnt have been playin, why would you pretend to lose that bad then just zoom on by when he was the one who initiated it, it may have been an automatic I really dont know but the dude couldnt hang at the high speed....

i still get a kick out of the kids in high school in this town. They will have a decked out gmt400 and they will rev their engine beside me at the lights wanting to race. So really they either have a 305 or 350 most likely. i got the 6L in my truck. Yup i havent lost one race lol

My truck is no rocket, but I gotta tell ya, from a rollin' start it ain't bad....I'll play :)

lucky you! I won't win any race with my big... big... 3.4 !! Probably a civic will race me, and you are talking about mustangs lol.

I love the guys in girl Mustangs and Camaros(V6) that try to race me. You should have saved up or stayed in school longer and bought the real thing. Theres one punk that lives in my town, has a V6 Camaro, a Z27 or something, he always ripping around town like a moron at 80-100km/h. My buddy has a twin turbo Supra and Mr. 2.8V6 tried to race him.......Ive never seen such a humiliating whooping, especially when I passed him in the 2500HD and pointed and laughed.

Why guys with V6 mustangs are always talking about the ''mysterious V6 like no others '' they have on their car? Every guy who drove that car will tell you : Ok it's a V6 but the one I have is special, he runs like a V8.

Im sure there are some really fast turbo V6's running around, but the ones you meet up on the street with its some kid whos driving their moms car. I have yet to see a fast V6 pony car.....but Im sure they are out there.

What gen of mustang was it? It couldve been a 4 banger.

I miss little snots trying to race me. They would try in my diesel...but the Bullydog helped me out a bit, then you get to smoke the crap out of them :)

It was def new if not brand new, either a 11' model or 12' but im not into those cars nor want to be so i dont know much about them....

If its a 2011 or 12 V6 or a Gt they will smoke you if they know what they are doing. The new V6 has over 300 HP and is about 2000 pounds lighter than your truck. The new GT is over 400 HP and pretty quick. I'd say he was just messing with you and is probably making the same post on a Mustang Forum lol

yeah that is true, but its still dumb for someone to mess around like that, and from what i know im sure all 300 ponies are def not making it to the rear wheels, just like my "previously" stock truck wasnt puttin 295 ponies to the rear wheels, I have a few mods and can still only get 250hp to wheels and 300tq "recent dyno results"

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
