1993 K1500 Temp Gauge Issue

Hello Guys,

I have a 1993 K1500 that I bought recently. All that I was told was that the auto tranny was rebuild about a year ago but the truck was good. The dash temp guage stays cold, but I know it works. I replaced the sender and the sensor. The check engine light is on and it idles a little rough, "lopes", but not too bad and maybe running a little rich (exaust smell is strong). Where do I go with the temp gauge text? Could it be the T-stat? Could it be that easy or would it all most have to be the wires. The seller did the timing his self and thought it might not be exactly "on point" and that is where the "lopping" is coming from. Thoughts?

If you know the guage works, have already replaced the sensor, I would say you probably have a thermostat stuck open. That would also cause it to run rich. Check coolant temp with a temp gun on the upper hose. Should be 200 degrees plus when warmed up.

Had the same problem check the temp sensor on the drive side of the block right after the first plug sometimes that gets unlpugged or broken
