Bose Amp Intermitant Shut Down?

Recommended Posts

On road trips in excess of one hour, my amp will shut down. At least I'm assuming it is the amp. The stereo does not power down, the cd player and dvd player will continue to hum along, but there just isn't any sound from the speakers. I can turn the head unit off for a second, turn it back on and the sound will work, but only for a few seconds. It's behaving as if the amp for the speakers is over heating and shutting down. There is no rime or reason to when or why it does this. I take the same road trip about every six weeks, always have the music playing at about the same volume level, etc. But every once in a while, it shuts down. I've reported this scenario to the dealer on two separate occasions while have other warranty work done. Both times they told me they "could not duplicate issue, no problem found".

I'm not even going to bother asking the dealer to look at it again. I'm pretty sure it's a bad head unit, but figured I'd ask if anyone here has had this problem and if there's something else I should try before yanking the HU out and replacing it with an aftermarket unit.
