Stone chips

I have just under 8k miles on my 2001 HD and I was looking at it today and was extremely dissapointed as to how many stone chips are in the paint.

 

I drive 99% paved roads (although salted and cindered some in our lately mild winters).  I expected the rockers to have a few chips in them, but even the rear quarter panel behind the drivers rear wheel is badly peppered.  I have had the Husky mud guards on since the truck was almost new...

 

Who else has this problem???

I was thinking about having my rocker panels Line-Xed because of stone chips. I think alot of it has to do with the size of rocks the BFGs throw.

I wonder if your truck has a bad paint job. I had a 2001 2500HD, black, and when I sold it with 30,000 miles, only the hood had rock chips, and not really that many. You may want to have Chevy (dealer) look at it.

I drive on paved roads almost all the time and have the same

problems. I pull out if a gravel driveway and it sounds like someone is launching pebbles at me with a sling shot. I have the stock firestones. I didn't notice how bad the chips had gotten until doing my pre winter wax job last week. Totally sucks! If you go to the dealer for this please post what happened with it.

I know the stock Firestones are rock throwing SOB's!!!  I took mine off with 5K miles on the truck.  

 

Maybe the truck does have a bad paint job.  I'll talk to the dealer next time I'm in for service.

I have the same problem with my truck with about 8k miles.  The paint seems really thin and chips easily compared to other trucks I've had.  I put a bug guard on there and I'm still getting regular chips on the front of my hood.  The paint just seems really thin all over.  The way things are going I'll have to get the hood repainted before I sell the dang thing in 5 years.  If I have one complaint about my new truck it would be the paint.  I guess it is black though, so I might just be over reacting.
