1993 K1500 4hi 4lo Light

WHEN I PUT THE TRANFERCASE SHIFTER IN EITHER 4HI OR 4LO light stays on for wile then goes out for a wile off/on. seems like the front ifs axle disengaes when the light is off. shifts smooth other than the light and in and out.does the light on the floor have any thing to do with engament .

When i was 16 i had a 91 silverado with that Manuel transfer case, and from what i remember i always made sure that light turned off. I totally forgot i owned that truck haha

Light On:front axle engaged

Light Off:dis-engaged

 

The prob with the actuator is it's gas filled.It takes a while for it to get warm enough to push the piston in to engage the diff.Not sure when(maybe in the late '90s)GM went to an electric system where it engages almost immediately.They have an upgrade where you can replace the gas actuator with the newer version...I've been thinking about doing this...not cheap though

 

There's also a system called PosiLock.There is a handle you install(after installing the new actuator in the diff) under the dash(usually) and it locks immediately.There other advantages to it too...Google it

turns out my actuator wasn't screwed in all the way 10 turns in & works like a charm everytime
