Cabin Air Filters

After spending 10 bucks a pop for these air filters, I now have to make an extra trip to the store to get a dinky-ass set of metric sockets - ratchet to change the dern things. Good greif, I believe a liitle engineering could have reduced the time and difficulty required to change these. I AM NOT A SMALL GUY GM!!! Let a 6'2" 295lb guy with large hands do some of your R&D for a change. (stepping off of soapbox)

There are 4 screws in a cosmetic panel that should be removed, and then 1 screw in a narrow cover underneath that. Seems like they were 6mm and unless you have rachet with an extension, you are pretty much SOL. This all takes place in front of the passengers seat, right where your feet would be if you were setting as the passenger.

I thought the filters were more expensive than that-? Like 25 bucks each! Where did you get those from anyway? I remember the GM dealer here charges out the @$$ to do it. Like 50 bucks for the part and 50 bucks for labor!!! Of course it was two years ago when I did it on my dads truck, so I may be misdirected :D

Yes at 6'5 and 235, it was a fun time trying to contort and lay on the floor to loosen up the plastic to get at these.  I'll have to check advanced on the replacements next time.  I know the dealer bent me over on the 1's from there.

... so I may be misdirected :puke:...

:puke: No, No, No.... Im The Misdirected one... :thumb: hehe...

BTW, everyone... I took my filters out and instead of buying new ones I just blew all the dirt out of mine with a compressor... They cleaned up very well and it didnt cost me anything other than a few minutes... Next time they get dirty, though, Im gonna go ahead and buy new ones... :puke:

My dad blew it out after he first found out about the air filters-he did not know when he bought the truck, after 30k miles he learned about them- it worked pretty good, got another 5k out of them before we could really tell a difference in the cabin, it was terrible. When I worked at the GM dealership last summer I saw all sorts of those filters with ungodly amounts of mildew, and just plain NASTY stuff! I was surprised by how much junk would get in the cab if they were not there.

BTW before anyone asks, I was a "service drive attendant"(porter) forthe service dept. I gotta drive so many cool cars, I couldn't believe it. Alot of corvettes, about six different Zo6's, not to mention when they came back in for work:) I was also able to drive 2 H2's, and an actual Hummer. I was so excited when I climbed in that Hummer! What is even better is I am going to work there again over X-Mas break! Woohoo!

Yeah, mine had feathers and all kinds of sh1t in 'em... No mildew, however, I guess because of how dry the climate is here in NM...

BTW, sounds like an awesome job... Im jealous of those Z06 experiences youve had working there... hehe... Next time you drive a red one remember me :puke: LOL :puke:
