Needing some help!

I have a 1996 1500 z71. The check engine light came on hooked up the

Code reader told me I have a bad crankshaft sensor. While driving the truck totally died.

The starter was going out so I replaced that and the sensor. Truck still won't start. I pulled a plug to test for spark and with the plug out the engine turned right over!. Put the plug back in and she wouldn't start. Tried this with another plug and got nothing. Is the plug bad? Could it simply be the wire? Or even the pick up coil? Any idea s would be appreciated.
