chev1guy Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 The throttle body on the truck needs to be cleaned and I would prefer to do it myself. I have searched on Google and YouTube for a good write up but could not find anything for NNBS. What I did find was something about the truck being “drive by wire” would this change the process used to clean the TB. Could somebody please give me a write up on how to properly clean the TB and re-learn the TB after cleaning it? By the way I have a 2009 Silverado with the 5.3.

Hi, I cleaned the throttle body on my 2008. I removed the throttlebody from the truck and used a specific cleaner bought from advanced auto parts. I will tell you that when you reassemble the unit, and start it, It will need to relearn the computer. I just drove mine for around 50 miles and it was fine. It was acting up when I first started it by a fast idle so be careful when you first put it in gear and when you are driving it until it relearns. It is a very easy repair. Just remove the intake tube, unplug the wire harness, and take out the four bolts. I sprayed the cleaner and used a rag to clean the deposits from the throttle body and the throttle opening plate. If you have a check engine light, just remove the battery cable for 15 min. hope this helps

Several vids on youtube showing the 800 series. 900 will be similar. Use throttle body cleaner available at auto parts stores. You can clean the throttle body while it is on the intake or remove it. It's very simple.
