What Is This For?

I hav noticed that I am missing the little rubber piece that fits on the back corner of the roof, near the back glass, where the back door and the cab meet.

 

 

What does this piece do, and is it bad if I am missing one?

Looks like a seal.....I would think you would NOT want one missing.

I am pretty sure that just "hides" the seam. It is strictly for appearance.

But there is no seem there. Its not actually part of the weather stripping. And, I dont think it leaks. Its been so long since we have seen rain around here, I really couldnt tell you for sure if it leaks or not.

There is a seam there with some sort of glue in it, I doubt it will leak but it is possible. Mostly it's to cover up that ugly glue they use in the seam.

Just for looks. Mine came off while washing years ago. Its just double sided taped on.

As others have posted there is a seam unter there but it's heavily coated with a sealer before the truck is alpo dipped and painted. I've seen several of these come off and never heard of any leaking. The trip piece offers some cosmetics as well as protection of the sealer although it's unlikely something would puncture the sealer given the location.

 

My dad's came off about a year after owning the truck and the dealer replaced them under warentee.

Just get the price for a new one from a dealer and if it is outrageous then go to a pick and pull salvage yard. It is probably a very inexpensive part....

If you do go to the dealer, please post the part number on here. I have been missing one for at least 2 years, not really sure when it came off. No leaks or anything, just to hide the seam and is purely cosmetic as others have stated.
