i have a buddy looking to try to get so more pep out of his 1.9 litre vtec but also make his suspension more "track" ready...i think hes crazy but i agreed to help, i know i should take this to a honda forum but i'm not deeply invested in this project enough to do that, i figured id fire off a thread and see if any of my fellow GMT owners had a civic they beefed up somewhere on the road of life...thanks

turbo, high flow cat, free flow muffler that doesnt totally sound like shit. so not one at pepboys or autozone. new cams. suspension i dont know enough about that car for it

WIthout forced induction it is pointless to even try to make more hp on that andythign else you do is just going to be more noise not meaningful power, it should be a 1.8 also

Try a eibach pro plus or sport plus kit for the suspension, on a car liek that the tires make a big difference as well so suspension and tires will be more rewarding than $2000 on intake and exhaust for maybe 10hp

+ 1 on the forced induction comment. I've been around Hondas for quite a while, and intake/exhaust is just a bunch of noise on a stock motor. I'm a fan of the Skunk2 Pro series coil-overs. But yeah, money spent on suspension mods is the first mod anyone should consider. A good handeling car is way more fun to drive.

i kind of figured a blower is the only real way to get some more grunt out of such a small motor...he is caught up thinking high end spark plugs and a CAI are going to really beef it up...

Turbo kits are pretty cheap for civics (at least the older ones). Basic stuff like CIA, exhaust, header (will prob make the most diff), underdrive/lightweight pulley to help the engine rev a little quicker.

Suspension im not sure what they come with stock but lowering springs, strut tower brace, front and rear sway bars.

If he wants more power, he needs to make it reliable..... but there is some money involved. A buddy and I re-did his RSX-S 6 speed. We pulled the motor, bored, sleeved, threw in bigger forged pistons and rods, threw it all back together and slapped a turbo on it, then had a professional tuner tune it. We first tried just a turbo with a tune, on his stock 2.0 and within a few thousand miles that motor was toast, he threw 2 rods and shattered a piston. Once we built a new motor correctly it is stout. A GOOD cat back exhaust, with high flow cats will help, but the only way to get power out of those small motors is a turbo. But as I stated.... it NEEDS to be tuned correctly, and beefier internals to withstand the added power or it will eventually toast. Coil overs is the best way to go suspension wise with better sways and strut bar. It involves some time and money. He could always just do a GOOD cat back, hi flow cats, CAI, pulleys and still get it professionally tuned and he will notice a little difference.

A few years ago I helped out a buddies kid with his Honda. The trick back then was motor swap. It was into an older bodied car (92 I think) and was about the easiest swap I ever did. There was so much information back then, as well as so much swap parts, like wiring harness kits, adapters for just about anything honda as well. Take a look at what options you have to swapping engines/trans. You may find it to be the fastest way to go fast.
