Power Steering Pump

im not sure if its the box or if its the pump. pretty sure its the pump but the last few months ive noticed it doesnt lik turning the wheels at idle...or dry steer. sometimes it will even make a loud squeal LOL. im wondering if any of you have had this experience? is it on its way out? it seems to be fine when you are moving...the fluid is perfect, no leaks...i notice it most in parking lots trying to park the limo in smartcar sized spots when you are doing like 5 point turns. you will go to turn the wheel and it just feels like you have no power steering for a second until you hit the gas :):) should i just go ahead and do a pump??

I do not know if it's going out or not, but dry steering is hard on your truck. Your truck should always be in motion before turning your wheels. It doesn't sound like you have a current problem though. It shouldn't be easy to dry steer in the first place. The mechanic at our fire department gets very angry when we dry steer.

My truck has the squeel, But not the dead spot. It's had the pump and box changed. Your problems are magnified by the tires and lift.

Go to the Deiselplace, and look thru the steering and suspension forum. You'll find plenty to read about it.

i know dry steering is hard on it :) but my woman ALWAYS does it. i catch myself doing it too sometimes but i never ever just start turning the wheel...when it happens to me im like goin from reverse to forward backing out. i always start turning a fraction of a second before im moving forward and i get the dead spot and somtimes a squeal. just sounds like one of them things im gonna have to live with until its totally screwed LOL

There are several TSBs out there for "high steering effort" on the gmt 800 & 900s.

It is caused by a bad EVO sensor.

I had to have the EVO sensor replaced in my 07 gmt-900 under warranty for this

issue.

+1 on this. I dont have a huge lift or big tires (2" with stock 265s) but I have wheels with less backspacing, and I noticed the same thing imediately after installing the new wheels. I thought the same thing at first, but it had to be the wheels because it did it as soon as I pulled out of the shop, but not once before.

i dont have huge lift either just 2" but im running 33x12.50's with 9 inch wide rims and pretty good offset on them also. had them on on for along time, this has just been the last few months ive really been noticing this. its kind of getting annoying...what does EVO stand for? is it a sensor along the column somewhere on on the box?
