Adding Ambient Lighting

Hello All,

Prior to buying my 2010 Sierra I had a 2008 Caddy CTS. One of the things that I really liked about the car was the ambient lighting. There was a lightbar in the passenger dash, LED's in the footwells, LED's in the door handles, and LED's under the driver and passenger seat (lighting the rear foot area).

I am going to attempt to add this to my truck. My plan is to take plenty of pics and do a write up and post it here in case anybody else is interested in doing this.

I ordered the LED's, resistors, and a dimmer from superbrightleds.com. I got the dimmer because I was concerned that the LED's would be too bright and I wanted to be able to adjust them.

The way it works is that I supply power to the dimmer then connect all the LED's to the dimmer output.

My question is, where to get power for the dimmer. I want these lights on at night but not on during the day. I am thinking maybe I want the ambient light switch to control a relay?

I would like to hear your feedback on this idea or maybe other ideas of how to get power to the dimmer. Also if you are offering ideas can you provide info on which wires I should be tapping into?

Thanks,

Mark

Does nobody know how I can supply 12 volts to the LED dimmer when the lights are on but not when the lights are off?
