Abs Error Codes C0225 And C0245

Hello all;

I got my truck scanned today for ABS codes, and luckily I only got two of them.

C0225 pertains specifically to my left front speed sensor supposedly being faulty. I replaced the entire hub assembly, so maybe there's a chance I got a dead speed sensor w/ my purchase? Any one had issues w/ Timken parts?

C0245 is directly related to the EBCM having internal issues (the solenoid or control value circuit according to the read out)

I was just curious if my PCM needs to be updated since the truck has 17x7 wheels and 265/70-17 tires instead of the stock ones. Would that help anything or do I need to start looking for some faulty wires? I'd like to avoid taking the EBCM off, but if that's what I gotta do, well, so be it.

Thanks for any help!

year/make/model? 2wd/4wd? stock wheel and tire?

Oooops! Sorry about that! '03 ext cab Silverado, LT, 4x4, 5.3 liter! Can't believe I forgot that info!

The stock wheels/tires look to be 16x7.5 and 235/75-16. Not sure if that'd make much of a difference w/ the truck's braking system, but ya never know!

Thanks chawkins!

Yup. Tire size changes can cause all kinds of issues with not only the abs system but the engine and transmission controls as well.

Thanks for the replies every one!

Spankrz: It is possible that I've got a bad connection from wiring harness do the WSS I suppose. I'll have to check that out when time permits!

ChevyTech77: So basically if all else fails should I take the truck in and see if an update to the PCM would make the ABS light go bye-bye? That'd be great if that's all the problem was, but knowing my luck things usually don't get that easy!

Does any one think it's the EBCM or did I kinda/sorta/maybe dodge a bullet?

No calibrations available for this size tire.

C0245 is because your pcm is programmed for one size tire and the ebcm another.

C0225 may just be setting because of the unwanted abs activations that are occuring on a regular basis because of the ebcm being programmed for a different sized tire than the pcm.

Put all the calibrations in the pcm and ebcm back to stock and try that. If not, the abs light will be forever on.

So what your saying is if going back to the default stock settings doesn't work, then I'm stuck w/ this annoying light indefinitely? Well, don't exactly have anything to lose so will give that shot I suppose!

Thanks for the input 'Tech77!

I guess my other question would be how did the PCM get programmed for one thing and the EBCM the other? Does the computer automatically do this w/ different sized tires or did the previous owner take it in for this?

I suppose going back to stock size wheels 'n tires wouldn't be a bad move down the line. Save some serious cash at the tire shops at least!

Thanks for the help!

Very good possibility. The abs module (ebcm) allows the tech the ability to set a tire size calibration using the GM scan tool or Tech 2. The problem with that is, is that when you set a tire size in the ebcm you are only telling the ebcm what size the front tires are because the ebcm gets all of its information for the rear tires through the powertrain control module (pcm). The tire size is not readily changeable in the pcm as it is the ecm.

So, say you got a tech that saw a larger tire size that was say more comparable to what you have on the truck, listed in the scan tool and sets the ebcm for that tire size. Now the ebcm sees say a 285/75 tire size on the front but is still getting information for the factory rear size of say 245/75. So, at 60 mph for example, the front wheel speeds are showing 57 mph and the rears are showing 61 mph. On snaps the abs light and dtc C0245 sets.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for the info 'Tech77! You've given me a really clear idea as to what just might be happening here!

I'll have take the truck in to see if they can get the calibration between the modules w/in spec so maybe (big maybe) that lousy light will go off!

Really appreciated the help, man! Thanks for puttin' up w/ a newb! :)
