My 08 Silverado has ran for 62,000 miles o.k. but about 4 weeks ago , I was on my way to work luckly I got in the parking lot and the engine quit running . The readout on the dash went crazy showed Oil Light, Engine Light, DIC w/ "Service traction control", "Engine power reduced", "Service stability track", "Oil pressure low stop engine. then I got it to start up and then it read "Reduce Engine Power" . Hooked a code reader to it and the Code is P0641(P0641 CHEVROLET Description-The Service Manual says The Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a voltage out of tolerance condition on the 5V reference 1 or 2 bus for more than 0.5 seconds.) This also happened several more times. The last time I was on my way again to work and I was about 5 miles from the Chevrolet Dealership that I bought it from. I did the exact samething again. took me over 1 hour to get to the dealership. I couldn't even get all the way to the dealership. I made it to the Quick Market that is just across the Road from the dealership. The shop manager sent a Tech out to walk across the road and get it. The GM Tech hooked his code reader up and it once again showed code P0641, The dealership kept my truck for 2 days and they told me they didn't know what was wrong. I have personally contacted GM and the gentleman that I talked to at GM told me that I was the only one they had heard of with this code P0641 problem and they do not know what it could be. Please if anyone knows what it might be and what it would take to fix it please help me. CODE P0641

well since its still under warranty, i'd let GM fix it...and if they can't then i'd see about getting a buy back...no reason to fix something yourself that is under warranty

Without further details, and a factory manual, I have no clue what it could be. If there is a code being set, there is a step by step procedure to troubleshoot the problem. Take it to another dealer, and have them take a look at it.

GM and the Dealership said Its not under warrenty, the only warrenty left is the drivetrain and it will run out soon. It doesnt take me long to put miles on it. I drive round trip to and from work per day is almost 100 miles. also I talked Friday (9/16/2011) to a GM rep. Named John and asked him that since they or the dealer could not fix it what about GM buying it back. and the answer I got and it was really quit NO IT HAS TOO MANY MILES FOR GM TO BUY BACK. The dealership and GM do not seam to really care once they sell you a vehicle. I have bought 7 new Chevrolet vehicles in the past 20 yrs. it would have been 8 but this same dealership the salesman that was waiting on me wanted to make his yearly living off of me and me alone so I went and bought a Nissan. And the GM rep. he is not trying to help at all. I am a maintenance tech for a automotive supplier and we supply GM and if we send bad parts they expect us to do anything and everything to correct it and make it right. The GM rep told me that they didnt want the dealers to just start putting parts on to try to fix the problem. He also told me that I would have to leave it with them tell it quit and gave code. I told him that I barely got to the dealership it was quitting and gave code. GM rep also said that the dealership would have to keep it and drive it and it take months for the problem to happen again and I asked him am I suppost to pay for a NEW vehicle while the dealership drives it around and puts a lot of miles on My vehicle and he said yes. Maybe someone can help me but thanks for your info.

The first few times that it has quit , I kinda thought that it was water grounding out a sensor or something. because I had just washed it at a car wash and another time it was really rainning, but it has quit sence those 2 times and the sun was shinning and it hadnt rained in days . so that ruled out the water theory. I have been lucky it hasnt quit again and its been a couple of weeks now. I bought a code checker and keep it in the truck for when it happens again. I have bought 7 new GM vehicles and have never had any problems to amount to anything but this one I guess makes up for it. I have 2 garages with GM cars in them I have a 69 ss 396 chevelle , 84 monte carlo ss,86 monte carlo ss , 84 Z/28 , 97 silverado with 155,000 miles . My 84 monte carlo ss actually has 355,183 original miles on it. I have repainted and restipped it but the engine has that many miles on it. I show all of the car at carshow and cruz-in's I am a Bowtie lover. I hope that I can get the problem fixed. Thank you for your help
