Steering Wheel, Radio And Ac Lights Burning Out

Hi all,

New to this forum, but did some lurking before i finally decided to join. I tried searching for the anwser to my question but could not find what i was looking for so hoping you guys can help me out.

I have a 2007 chevy Silverado Classic with 80k plus miles. During warranty got a few of the controls on my steering wheel replaced as well as a new head unit for my stereo. Since i have been off of warranty i have had more steering control buttons stop lighting up, one or two lights on my radio have now gone dark and finally the other day the control on my a/c unit that you use to contol the temp

(the one you slide up and down for cool or hot air) stopped working. I have talked to other people with GM full size trucks and none of them appear to have the same problem as me. My driving is primarily 75% day and 25% night, only reason i mention this is i do not keep the lights on all the time. Any insight you could provde would be most appreciated, i am mainly trying to see if there anything i can do to stop more lights from burning out. Maybe a short somewhere........i do not know.

Thanks!

I don't have the steering wheel controls in mine, but I do have a couple of lights in my radio and HVAC control unit out. There have been a number of writ-ups on replacing the bulbs, either with incandescent or LED.

I believe that if you do a Google search, there are outfits out there who will replace the bulbs in your radio and HVAC, and I don't believe it is too expensive.

Also, if I recall correctly, your truck will be driveable without the HVAC control unit and radio installed while they are out getting repaired.

Thanks for the replies. How difficult is it to take the face plates off to gain access to the internal lights inside? I am pretty confident i can solder them. Also in regards to the steering wheel controls, those look a little more difficult to gain access to, how would you get to those?

Its a common problem. If you want to prevent it from happening again, go LED when you replace the bulbs.
