Got the latest oil anaylasis report back on my Blazer today.

How does it look to everyone?  Keep in mind back at 81,247 miles it got a new crank, main bearings, gaskets, sealants and engine flush thanks to the oil lines bursting.  Thankfully that was covered under the warranty!!  I used dino 5W30 for the first 3000 miles, changing it out at 1000 miles, and then switching it to Mobil 1 5W30 at 83,512 miles, which it has been getting since.  How is it looking?  I'm assuming the bearings are still slowly breaking in, or that is some left over silicon from the sealant?  I'm going to change my oil at 2500 miles this time and then get the anayalsis done again.

Thanks,

Joe

Ok, here are my results, all typed out.  They said in the comments that the silicon has been cut in half since my last sample, but the bearing metals copper and lead are improved but still high.  Upper end wear looks ok.  No harmful contamination in the oil that would cause unusual wear except for the silicon.  Keep in mind the above history on my truck when looking at this.

Thanks,

Joe

The only thing I'd be worried about is;

Fuel <.5

Antifreeze 0

Water 0

Otherwise without being a chemist, I really can't say what's good and bad in the others

It seems sort of soon after a rebuild to do an analysis to me.  I would expect some bearing material and other undesireable stuff for a short while.  That's the only time I ever do low mileage oil changes.  How much does the analysis cost?  I would think they would tell you if that list of values is good or bad.

It's only 20 bucks, they said the little bit of fuel could be from excessive idling, which my truck will be doing a bit of now that its winter time.  When I spoke to them after my first sample after the rebuild they said not to be worried at all.

Who did you use?  I use Titan and not only do they tell the specifics like yours, but they tell you whether or not the numbers are within normal parameters for both the engine and brand/viscosity oil you use.

I would expect higher amounts of silicone and copper especially after a significant rebuild as yours, but in all honesty at this point I'd only be concerned about the fuel, water, antifreeze components until you get more mileage on the re-build.  That is unless something is heinously out of whack.

Do the people doing the analysis privide and kind of guide or manual that allows you to read and understand what the analysis means?   That would be like me giving a patient a sheet with their blood analysis and them not having a clue what the different values for the different cell counts indicates.

Lane, the rebuild was back at 81000 miles and the oil sample was taken at 95000 miles.  I use Blackstone Labs but I will use Titan next time, they sound a lot better.  Do you have a website?  So your saying it all looks good since the water and antifreeze are zero?

From that perspective, yes, it all looks good.  But keep in mind, without knowing what it was getting before you did the rebuild and after it's kinda hard to compare and contrast.  What you need to do is get several analysis samples and note any trends.

That is unless something stands out like a sore thumb...like if you have 99% copper in the oil...that's a big sign saying..."BEARINGS ARE SHOT!"  :D
