2009 Axle Seals

Hello everybody. I have a 2009 sierra and I need to change both left and right front axle seals. I have a pretty good idea how to do this but just want to clear up a few points. First I dont know if it is because of the change in geometry due to my level kit, but it looks like I am not going to have very much room to move the axle out of the way after unbolting it from the differential. I was under the impression that in order to change the seals there was no need to take apart any suspension compnents can anyone verify this? Also I have been reading of people taking off the wheels for this job and I would just like to know what the purpose of that is because it doesnt really seem necessary.

This was for my old 2004 which is a similar setup to the NBS. For the passenger side, you have to remove the axle tube. On the drivers side, you can knock the axle out or if you can get a slide hammer in there, use that. The only suspension component I removed was the antisway bar link. You will have to remove the halfshafts. I installed new bearings while I was in there.

Is there a kit that has the all the seals, bearings, gaskets, etc?

The 2007 axle assembly is very similar to the 2004 but the process is different. The shock spring assemblies on you 07 will at very least need to be taken loose at the bottom. I usually take a ratchet strap to pull the lower shock out of the way. Unless you have a bad bearing I wouldn't replace any. The 07 may use a sealer or a gasket on the axle tube on the right side. Other than that all you need is 2x axle seals and replacement lube. No need to remove wheels or CV axles.

Hey lowcountry, I don't suppose you have pics of doing the driver side do you? I need to do my driver's side myself. Awesome pics on the passenger side, if I need to ever do this I think I can handle it now that I've seen these. Thanks
