4l80e Doesn't Engage

I have a Pace Arrow motorhome on a '95 GM P30 chassis, 454 with the 4L80E transmission, 93000 miles. I recently changed the fluid and filter. Afterwards I took it for a 30 mile shakedown run to make sure there were no leaks. It shifted fine and I parked it until a camping trip 2 weeks later. I went to leave and no drive in any gear except reverse. I have tried to check everything including removing the pan to check that the filter did not become dislodged from the valve body. When it is put in any forward gears each one makes a slight effect on RPMs but not enough to make it move. Increasing the engine speed does not make it go. Reverse is firm but takes a few seconds to fully engage. I will have to have it towed if I can't get it to move enough to get it somewhere for service. Any suggestions to diagnose the problem before getting it transported? I'm afraid that when it goes to a shop they won't fix a simple cause and will just want to sell me a replacement unit. I have $3000-3800 estimates so far without anyone seeing it up close and personal.

drop the pan and see if the filter is still in place properly..you may be sucking air instead of fluid..
