Gmbulletin: Shift Stabilization 99-07-30-22a

Hi, My '02 Silverado 1500 4WD 5.3 downshifts with very little drop in RPMs. In hilly western U.S. trips, this is really annoying, and likely not good for the tranny. I don't use cruise control because it is so 'sensitive' to speed drops, even in gradual climbs found in Nebraska, Dakota's, etc.

GM has the bulletin, but it appears it only affects Tow/Haul mode and won't help the standard drive settings, can someone confirm? My Chevy dealer service guy wasn't sure.

Is there a way to adjust cruise control sensitivity to allow more RPM drop before shifting? I'd think the engine has plenty of power in many of the down shift cases, but it downshifts before the engine really can start to work.

Otherwise, in the midwest, the truck runs great and everything seems fine. Tranny specialists say they can't do anything, it doesn't appear a 'chip' replacement would do anything.

Thanks.

Pretty sure a custom tuner could increase the throttle% for downshifts, but tuning costs (few hundred). Control parameters for the cruise system itself cannot be changed, I don't think.
