Noise/whine From Behind Dash?

Recommended Posts

I have a new 2011 Silverado 1500 4x4 LT.

I have noticed an annoying ringing/whining sound from behind the dash or maybe from the speakers. It rings for 20 seconds or so after I jump in the cab (even with no key in ignition). Then, I hear a soft click and the gauges drop to rest. The ringing goes away for a second or two, and then comes back.

The dealer of course said it is normal to hear a noise from the dash, but when a couple people tried to listen for it, they supposedly could not hear it. To me it is so easily heard I do not know how someone could not hear it.

Has anyone experienced this, or know if It is normal?

I notice some very high pitched ringing/noise/feedback from my speakers when all else is quiet, in acc. mode. Ie; after I stop the engine but before i open the door, the stereo will keep playing music... but if you don't have any music playing, I can hear the noise. I attributed it to crappy GM head unit, and expect the noise to stop when I go to an aftermarket unit.

Is there some sort of motor behind the dash that could be defective? Some electric motor that generates power for the gauges?

Ever worked around air tools? Impacts, air ratchets........ They probably didn't hear it. I know I have hard time with out a stethoscope, and I'm not that old..... And I have been around my fair share of air tools.

Take it back get another tech or change dealers looking at it.

Its the RAP module (retained accessory power) powering up!

It starts up when you open the door or unlock the vehicle with the remote..............

Next time get in your vehicle and watch the interior lights.

When they go off after a minute or so the noise will stop.

I hear mine "whine" when opening the door in my 07!

Can you hear it at other times? I hear mine on the highway, could it be a bad RAP motor?

NOPE..........................I can only hear it when I first open the

door either with the remote or key or when I shut the truck off

and the interior light or headlight on delay comes on.

do you have the GPS head unit?

the Navigation disc spins up when you open the door and RAP comes on.. if it is a motor and you have NAV (or a CD in the CD changer of the non-nav) that is what you are hearing
