Dynomax Vt Muffler Swap

I have been researching a new exhaust for the last month or so. I'm looking for something similar to stock while at idle and at cruising speeds but a little louder and deeper when you put your foot down and of course little to no drone. I'm pretty sure after listening to sound bites on the web that the Dynomax VT muffler fits my needs. The problem is the sound clips don't disclose whether it's just the muffler and stock exhaust or the entire DynoMax system. Now to my question.

Does anyone know if there would be a sound difference between just swapping my stock muffler for the DynoMax VT muffler vs. replacing the entire stock exhaust with the bolt on DynoMax System listed below?

Part Number: 38495

Description: DynoMax - Single - 3" Cat-Back System. 4" Polished Stainless Steel Tip. DynoMax VT® Muffler

It would be my preference to just get the system but not if it's going to be a lot louder than just the muffler swap with stock exhaust.

I'd also like to know what an owner of this product thinks of it. Have read they all rattle like crazy and are very annoying. Seems like a great concept, but I wouldn't go near one if they deliver as advertised.

I have one it doesn't rattle, are you talking about the muffler or the exhaust system? There is an extra hanger you have to cut off depending on if you have crew cab or reg cab which I know on my crew cab it would hit the frame and make a lot of noise.

I have seen where the dynomax is pretty sweet, I got an excellent deal on a magnaflow for my new truck the other day and went with it. It is a 20" SS magnaflow just welded into factory spot. You have no idea it is there until I get on it and it sounds NICE with no drone.

Looking at your profile I think you have the exact system I was looking at. Couple questions if it's not to much trouble..

Do you remember if the model number was 38495?

Did you do the install yourself?

How do you like the sound?

You wouldn't happen to have a sound clip would you? No worries if you don't.

By the way your turck is wicked cool. I have the same truck, minus all of your upgrades, and mines a 2010 All-Terrain and it's Carbon Black Metallic. OK maybe it's not the same and I'm just wishing it was.

I really appreciate all the responses.

The model # is 38495 I got it from jegs about $350. A fried of mine did it, he a lift in his garage, took like 30mins the only tricky bit was the factory clamp to connect it to the cat is attached to the exhaust and we did not know that at the time. I love the sound, on teh highway there is no difference but when you are on it a bit it is great, everyone says they love it. I don't have a sound clip, I will see about getting one though.

usually cat-back systems are going to be louder due to the little tiny bit extra performance you get out of an exhause (which you usually dont notice on a normal car).

That statement is incorrect, loudness has nothing to do with performance. A cat-back system is louder than stock because of the free flowing/straight through muffler along with a different diameter pipe. Just like an aftermarket muffler put in place of the OEM muffler. The aftermarket muffler will make your exhaust system sound louder than stock due to the muffler design.

I decided to order the DynoMax - Single - 3" Cat-Back System with the DynoMax VT muffler and the 4" Polished Stainless Steel Tip. Thanks for all the replies and once it's installed I'll try and get a sound clip.

How loud is the Ultra Flow though? Looking for something quiet at idle and cruising with no drone but a decent sound when you're on it. I was interested in the VT but don't like the idea of something mechanical that is prone to wear inside the muffler.
