Guys with the helm manuals

The Helm manuals are excellent, I've had them for the many GM vehicles I've had over the last ~20yrs or so.  There are 5 thick ones for my 01 Tahoe.  Highly recommended if you do any of your own service, want to diagnose problems or to brief yourself on the procedures/parts that will be touched when taking your vehicle to a shop for servicing.

 

I also like the EASE OBDII scan tool interface (and software) that I can hook up to my portable pc http://www.obd2.com/index_home.html

ditto on the manuals.  Complete torque spec tables.  Although the one point so far missing in the 2002 set is the chassis lube points  ??? .  Other than that always been great help in the past on other models.  Plus complete electrical diagrams.

In addition to all the above...

 

They are THE most comprehensive reference set available for your vehicle. I decoded all the RPO codes from my build sheet among other things.

 

My truck is still relatively new and hasn't had any problems, but Helms provides great piece of mind just knowing the information is there when needed.

 

The choice to purchase Helms Service Manuals becomes wiser the longer you intend to keep your truck

Before you do that, check on Ebay.  I just ordered the electronic version that the GM service shops were using.  Cost was like $24 plus shipping.  Not only did it cover the truck but it also covered several other GM vehicles including cars all the way back to 1980 to 2002.  I should get mine today by mail.  If your interested I can get a link for you.

i did bid on the electronic CD.  Someone out bid me by $1.00 2 min before the auction closed.  I heard the program is run on dos and takes up alot of space on the computer.  

 

I have a few books and have them also on cd.  I havent touched the cds but i have used the books a ton.  (one example machinerys handbook)

Got the CD's yesterday and installed them.  It seems to be working in the Windows environment and uses the web browser.  They do take up quite a bit of space and they take a while to install.  Just played around a little with them but they seem pretty helpful.  They have directions on taking things apart and putting back together, some service bullitens and drawings to go with all that.  If your interested check back out there often because they are always on there and if you get out bidded like I did also, just go to the next one that usually ends a few hours later.
