Finally Getting Around To Installing My Leveling Kit!

Any full synthetic WITHOUT friction modifiers. If you use a fluid with friction modifiers the G80 locking differential will not work correctly/i.e. lock the axles together when necessary. I use Amsoil as I am on their Preferred Customer program and prefer their products over others.

So if I'm reading the Amsoil site correctly none of their recommended products for our trucks have friction modifier. I'm thinking of using the severe duty as it looks to be the top of the line. I don't necessary do much "severe" work with the truck but do quite a bit of snowmobile & boat hauling and put on about 30k+ a year. Thoughts?

I've used their SD 75w90 gear lube for years in multiple applications from street driven daily drivers to all out off road mud/sand trucks with large tires and big engines with not one complaint or failure.

Amsoil Severe gear 75W-90 and 75w-140 is as good as it gets. Having said that all the major companies make great gear oils..So Pick one that you like and run it..Just make sure its a GL-5..

For the 3/4 tons with the g80's you want a 75w-90 that is gl-5 (not gl-4)

Mobil1 LS1 75w-90 is gl-5; valvoline synthetic is also gl-5.

But don't use a gl-5 fluid in something that is gl-4 spec'd; the yellow metals will not like gl-5.

What are the 2008 1/2 tons w/ G80 spec'd for? GL-4 or GL-5? I checked the owners manual but could not find it.
