Chrome Falling Off

The chrome is separating from the wheels on my truck. Now, it seems that dirt (and I'm assuming rust from the wheel itself) is collecting inbetween the chrome and the wheel, and throwing the balance off.

 

What can I do with these wheels? What is involved in taking the chrome off of the wheel?

 

Or, are they too far gone, and it's time to go wheel shopping?

Have them bead blasted to remove the chrome and get them powder coated.

I have thought about that, but I may as well get aftermarket wheels for the price I would pay to bead blast and powdercoat.

You'd be surprised at the price. Guy quoted me $35 a wheel if I brought them to him without the tires.

$35, is that for bead blasting and powder coating? If not, that's gonna end up being around $400, and I could get some newer OEM's for that price, and not have to run round anywhere....kinda hard to do when I don't have wheels on the truck!

 

But black powder coated wheels would look good on my white truck...... Now you have me thinking.

Thanks Lou. I guess if I do them 1 at a time, and just float the spare around each corner, I could handle most of that myself.

 

As old as the truck is, I'm more than likely ok with a rattle can job. Much like anything, it all depends on the prep work.

 

 

Is it possible to take the "chrome" off with the tires on? I know I would lose the weights on the outside, but they need to be rebalanced anyways.
