Well for a few reason's we traded in the truck for a tahoe. We need to get out of debt and read the total money makeover by Dave Ramsey and so we sold the camper and traded in my truck I now only owe my parents some money and have a mediocre loan on the Tahoe. The nice thing is I'll be debt free by the end of next year but at worst the spring of 2013. Then I'll be able to get a truck in a few years and pay cash for it and not a penny more than it's worth. Also I dont want this to become a Author bash saying ramsey is dumb but this other guy isn't and such Just sharing a recent tragedy in my life :) Here's a pic of the Tahoe.

good for you man, atleast your taking the reigns and trying to get out of debt...some people take their debt with them to the grave because they spent a life of living outside their finacial means

IMHO Ramsey knows what he is doing! Congrats on the Hoe, and before you know it you will be debt free and rolling in your new truck. It really is the only way to do it.

Smart move, and not sad at all. It was just a truck, and that's a nice Tahoe.

I can't really listen to the self-promoting guru types, especially when they're getting rich repeating simple ideas over and over (and over... and over... and over). How many ways, and times, can someone say:

  1. Spend less than you earn
  2. Save for a rainy day
  3. Invest for retirement
  4. It's better to be an owner than a renter
  5. It's better to be a lender than a borrower

Benjamin Franklin taught all these things, and more, 300 years ago, and he did it in a few words. No radio/TVinternet, no books, no self-promotion :) Actually, they can be perceived as "self evident truths" for those who choose to think about it, of which he was just one.

Edit: I'm *not* knocking on Ramsey... he does a good job at what he does, but it is a lucrative business for him.

Good for you. I like Ramsey BECAUSE of the reasons music mentioned. Not many people say those things these days :nonod:

He'd be the first to tell you he didn't invent those ideas. But by him telling you to follow those principles, you can turn your financial life around

Are you talking 100% debt free including your mortgage? that is impressive.

I did something similar a few years ago when I switched careers, it's just common sense.

Thanks Guys! No that doesn't include a mortgage we currently don't own but soon enough we will! I know it was the right decision and I like the Hoe, I just replaced all the radio buttons so one of the major flaws is now gone. It needs brakes and shocks but besides that it is in great shape. I've dropped my debt 14K in the past 4 weeks so I'm excited to see how we end up.

We are trying to work in the same direction.....4 more payments on the truck (0%)....just bought out the Wifes lease, figure if we were going to buy a used car, why not hers, we know the history, and the mileage is below average....3 year plan, and only the mortgage to deal with after that....mortgage payment is the same as renting a two bwdroom with a garage....gotta live somewhere

Thanks guys! Yeah we are very excited to have financial freedom! My theory is if you have to finance it you can't "afford it". It will also feel good when the day come I can go buy the truck of my dreams with cash and not deal with all that BS. I think i can manage not having my truck to reach such a great thing that most people will never understand or know the feeling of!

btw, I had a 04 Tahoe when they came out and I loved it! Do you have the 'barn doors' or the hatch? Barn doors rock!

Posted

No we have the hatch. I had a '90 suburban that had barn doors they were sweet. The one reason im happy with the hatch over the barn doors is because the hatch has a wiper or it and with the snow and weather up here where we live you would never be able to see out the back of those barn doors. Also I did a radio button kit and the interior looks brand new just from upgrading that.

Good for you. I have debt and probably always will because I like nice things! lol! I can't take any of my money with me when I die, and don't have kids to share any leftovers with so I tend not to worry as much. Im sure if I had a family I would think differently!
