110K miles too much for used 2007 Avalanche LTZ?

I'm in the process of looking for a new truck and a friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a guy he knows that own a couple local dealerships. My friend has bought from him in the past but I have not. I have not dealt with any dealers on any vehicle I own actually.

He has currently a 2007 Avalanche LTZ but it has 110K miles on it. It is a 1 owner black truck with tan leather interior in very good to excellent condition for the mileage. As for options it has everything you find in a normal LTZ including sunroof and rear seat entertainment. It, however, does not have Nav.

He is asking $20K for the truck but is willing we called him and asked what he would take $17,900 just on a phone call. I'm thinking in person $17000-17,500 would take it home.

Because of teh mileage it does need a few little things like a battery, new steering wheel trim covers are flaking, and the dual climate control module, and a few other odds and ends. My cost i'm looking at around $500.

On average most of the vehicles i have bought have had 60-100K miles on it. I keep them for a few years and usually drive them well over 150-200K miles. None of the vehicle I have bought has ever had an issue. My current Silverado is at around 160K and still going great (knock on wood). At the same time I have never bought anything as new as this truck where the person racked up the mileage this fast.

Apparently this truck was sold new at the dealer it is being sold at now. It was traded in on a new truck. The original owner of the Avalanche is a good friend of the person that owns the dealership. Apparently the guy who owned the truck owns his own company where he did a lot of driving averaging about 25K a year.

What's everyone think? I know on the older trucks 150-200K was nothing but I don't know with the 07+ trucks. Should i pass on it due to mileage or maybe go take a better look and try to score it cheap? Originally i didn't really give the truck a second look but if the price is right i could save myself a lot of money.

Thanks

PS - on a side note I have access to a shop and am able to perform all maintenance and work myself so there would be no labor costs associated with the truck in anything i do.

price seems steep to me. If you can get the price where you want it, I say go for it if thats what you want to do. 110k is not too much at all AS LONG AS the previous owner handled normal maintenance and didnt rag on it.

What price the 17K or the 19K or both?

Its hard to price. The only real comparison in my area was a Blue 2007 LTZ w/ nav and 84K miles. They want. 22K for it.

I would say if it was taken care of and in good condition, along with what you are wanting, $17k may be pretty accurate.

The 100,000 miles wouldn't scare me :dunno:

I'd work on him more to lower the price more..

I can guarantee that's why it hasn't been sold yet but does look to be taken care of. Right now I'm thinking I'll just hold off. He may come down more if he still has it a few more weeks.

100k miles doesn't mean that much to me, *if* it's well maintained. That's the question... Actually, I'm more afraid of vehicles that haven't been driven enough, or have been driven hard. 100k highway miles is about as hard on a truck as 10k miles for some of the folks on this forum :)

The one thing that would concern me is if the vehicle has been driven by the previous owner's employees. Sorta seems like they may have used it as a delivery truck or something. Sometimes, multiple drivers beat the crap out of the vehicle.

The price does seem high to me, with that mileage.

I would also run a CURRENT CarFax report on the vehicle and get the service history. NEVER accept the CarFax report that was run by a dealer. They usually run the report when they purchase the car and the report can be missing a lot of current info that could be particularly pertinent to the sale of the vehicle.

I'd bet that the last one (108K miles) would take $16K for that truck. The others have a lot less miles but I'll bet they would take $17K.

I'd say that the one you are looking at should sell for ~$15-$16K

Here's an '09 for $20K.... that guy is dreaming...

The more i think about it it really differs depending on where you live. I live up in the northeast and from all the vehicles I have owned and others as well the age of the truck catches up with as before the mileage. The repeated winters and snow and salt year after year really beat your vehicle up. I know people with 2003's with only 30-40K on them but they're starting to rot just like something with 150K on it and basically its from the repeated winters. Now if i lived in the south where snow wasn't an issue it would be the exact opposite.

To put my current 2000 Silverado 2500 (non-HD) Extended cab. I bought it in 2004 I think with 60K miles on it. It has 150K miles on it now. Really the truck has been great only needing basic maintenance over the year. Where it is starting to show its age is in the paint/body. Its got its dings and scratches, the clear is starting to lift in a couple spots. That's from the truck just being 11 years old and not mileage. Now if i look back to when i bought it that truck and comparing the 2 condition wise when I purchased them the 07 is in better shape with 100K miles on it than my 2000 was with 60K miles on it.

Those look decent but i am in the northeast, (New England) That's a little far even for a road trip but they are very good prices.

My friend who pointed me in the direction of this dealer had a couple car faxes left and ran it for it. It came back clean. Basically it was bought in 2007 at that dealer and traded back in at the same dealer which kind of made sense to me given they are friends.

I don't put a whole lot of faith in the car faxes even though i usually look them over anyway. I have personally seen vehicles with thousands of dollars worth of damage from an accident and never have it show up on a carfax. I have not run a warranty history report but that would be my next step. anything done to that truck should have been done under warranty.

I have a friend who is in the auto detailing business and they have some digital paint thickness gauges he is willing to lend me if i go look at it. Basically for anyone who is unfamiliar with what they are you stick the meter to any panel and it will tell you how thick the paint is. Generally 5-7 mils means its factory paint. 15 or so mils means its been painted and if you get 50+ mils its had body damage and there is bondo underneath. Pretty handy tool to have. I would bring along the snap on scanner tool.

I can try for 16K and see what he'll do. He is asking 19,980 but i know that price is off the wall. All his listed prices are high.

If I were you, I'd try and get a maintenance record. Did he get it serviced at the dealer he bought it? If so, the dealer should be able to pull the record on it. If it's had all it's scheduled maintenance (oil changes, diff changes, tranny changes and other odds and ends) than it *should* be a solid truck. Best of luck to ya.

One other issue you may run into is if a regular bank will finance your loan. In years past the banks would not finance (with a good loan rate)any private vehicle with over 100k on it, and that was why some many cars "lost" so much value. (it was not that the cars were more unreliable over 100k, but rather harder to get financing from banks so it was harder to get a good load for it.) I hope that makes sense. Good luck.

is it 2WD or 4WD and does it have the 5.3L or the 6.0L

Nada and KBB list 2WD from $17,900 to $22,000 for Trade to Retail and the 4WD from $20,700 to $27,400 Trade to Retail, depending on the options (Navigation, Tow Package, 6.0L motor, etc) and condition..

$17K is about right (actually a little low) IMO.. and yes that is with 110,000 on the clock.

What a lot of guys here do not realize is the Avalanche holds it's value very well, mostly because unlike a lot of vehicles, it is not heavily sold at fleet pricing or used as a rental vehicle. The market is not satuarated with them, hell I have seen a few 2002 - 2004 with the cladding and over 200,000K on the clock going for $12K- $14K around here..

I paid 14k for my 07 NNBS CCSB 2wd LT 5.3v8 in good shape. Few scratches n dents but in overall great shape Im happy with it.

but an NNBS and an Avalanche are 2 different vehicles and the resale and the pricing on them is vasty different, as are the options, and the OP is talking about an LTZ Avalanche, which is priced as an SUV because it in basically a Suburban with the rear top cut off.
