I was wanting to put an intake on my 04 silverado 5.3L and was wondering what you guys recomend? I was thinking a K&N Cold air intake but was also looking at all the intakes on ebay. They are much cheaper and look good. Are they junk or are they about as good as the K&N? Any help is appreciated!

Here is a link to an ebay intake like i was talking about. Do you think this would work as good?

Not sure about the 04 but the GMT900s already have a cold air intake and the real restriction is in the resonators(or what ever they are) on the tube to reduce engine noise. I think most of them are more or less the same except the quality of the filter. I know a few people who just upgraded there tube and then put a better drop in filter in the factory box. With that said, I like the look of my K&N CAI over the metal ones but that's just personal taste. I don't think I would use the filter that comes with one of those cheaper CAI kits but the tube doesn't look bad. If you are a DIY kind of guy I remember seeing several post on GMFS where they were making their own tubes out of PVC pipe.

Is the intake worth the money? Do you gain much from them?

Yes and no. Every little bit helps, but worth the money.. thats a hard argument for the small gain you get. You'll basically get better throttle response.. thats about all you'll really notice other than the hum. I've had good results on some vehicles and others none. :dunno:

So in all reality i should have $200 and buy the cheap one on ebay and put a better filter on it if i want to go with an intake? Thanks for the reply!

I skipped the pricey kits and did a Airaid intake tube and a drop in K&N filter in my 2001.
