Quick Question on GM Protection Plan - Major Guard Coverage

Quick question regarding the coverage of the GM Protection Plan - Major Guard product which I have on my truck for 7 yrs - 100k I believe. I have the documenation buried somewhere and without having to search for it I'm wondering if replacement of my cast aluminum wheels would be covered. I just turned 50k, and all 4 of my rims are starting to show pretty bad 'wheel rot'. Not only where outer wheel weights have been installed, but also around the center caps as well as various locations along the wheel face. This has been going on for quite some time, but I want to get it taken care of while I can on GM's tab if that is still possible. If / when I get new ones, I hope it is possible to have the dealer balance them with the 'inside' type weight strips instead of those old fashioned outside once that mar up the finish.

ps: from everything I can find on the internet regarding the 'Major Guard' plan, i don't specifically see wheels listed in the 'not covered' parts, and considering they advertise the plan as covering 'wear and tear' items I would hope I should be in good shape.

Just trying to get my ducks in a row before approaching the GMC service department about this situation.

For what its worth, I did take mine to the dealer and complained about the rims corroding badly after only 20,000 mi. They wouldn't cover them unless they literally start to come apart. I would dare say that if the factory warranty is sketchy in regards to this issue, the aftermarket one will be more so. I ended up buying chrome clad 20 inchers from gmpartsdirect. Good Luck!

For all with factory wheel problems it sounds like there is some strange answers at the dealers. I bought a used 09 with12,000 miles

and the rims started there crap about three months later I called my local GMC dealer there closer to me than the chevy dealer set a appointment told them about the rims ,service mgr. came out took a look at the worst rim told me the Factory would replace them all one time only............ Call your dealer! they will replace them .Now under the extended warrty I don't know for sure Call 'em

Good luck Dave :chevy:

I doubt it. They will roll corroded wheels into either "bright metal" or "rust damage" category. I do not know of any extended service plans that cover corrosion of polished metal components, unless they can somehow cause engine or transmission malfunction.

Guy's it's a phone call and a quick trip to the dealer so they can take a look at YOUR rims! G.M. has a service bulletin on this issue they know these rims corrode from normal use/salt spray etc. thats why it states in the owners manule to only wash the rims with soap/water then wax with non-abrasive automotive wax .

Ask your dealer for the phone # for the district rep in your area talk to them believe me they want to keep our bussiness after the big bail-out, be persistant don't loose your cool and you might just get a new set of rims for christmas Good luck keep us updated Dave :chevy:
