Disable autoplay when USB cable is connected?

Whenever I plug my iPhone into the USB port to charge, it automatically switches the input to USB. Does anyone know how to disable it? I'd like to be able to just plug it in to charge. Thanks,

I would also like to do this as I have an Android phone and all I get is a stoppage of whatever I'm currently listening to only for the stereo to display "USB device not recognized"... extremely frustrating since I have to manually switch it back to 'stereo'
