Spare Tire Lift Stuck. Need Help

Accidentally wound the spare lift bracket too far up and now the cable drops but the bracket is stuck in the hoist. Any suggestions?

I had this happen too, worst design I could think of. It is stuck on the secondary latch (which is probably corroded) that is supposed to keep the tire from coming down if the wench fails. Lower the tire down a couple inches until the cable starts loosening. Get a flashlight and a pair of channel locks and try hard to get above the tire and unlatch the secondary latch. You will have to squeez it pretty hard for it to unlatch. Also use some wd-40. Once you do that (it will probably take a while and some cuss words will fly) lower the tire down and cut that stupid secondary latch off!
