ASC light flashing?

Hi,

I have a 2003 Yukon Denali with 149K miles on it. It had the problem of "reduced engine power, stabilitrak disabled" intermittently at startup (never while driving, only at startup and maybe 3 times a year). So I had my local mechanic put a new throttle body in and so far so good. I think it actually runs a little peppier than before. My mechanic said it also needs two reflashes and a tuneup, so I am saving for those. However, today on the way home from seeing my dad, I noticed that a button next to the little sunroof buttons is flashing red. That little button says ASC. The vehicle drives fine and there are no error messages on the dash. I did get a new battery yesterday at Les Schwab.

It is critical that this vehicle remain in good running condition. I live 1.5 hours away from my dad, and he has brain cancer. He is in the final weeks of his life, and I have been traveling alone with my 2yr old daughter a couple times a week to see him. Is it safe to continue driving with that little button flashing red? How do I get it to stop? What is my car trying to tell me? I know nothing about cars and how to fix them.

Thank you,

DMM

From what I remember of my wife's previous '03 Alero, she also had a little idiot light that said ASC. The button was located behind the shifter, but when engaged it would cut power to the engine if vehicle detected loss of traction on the front wheels. If you were "slipping" no matter how much you applied the pedal you were going NO where in a hurry. You could actually watch the RPM gauge drop when it was activated. I'm also trying to find more helpful info on this system but, nothing so far. Does the light come & go? While driving try to see when it comes on/stays on/goes out.

From my family to yours, our prayers are with you.
