STEERING TILT TIGHT

HI to all, I am new here but have driven Chevy's for 40 years. Was a GM mech. in the 70's, and now I need help please, I drive a 2003, 2500 Express Van and as the topic states the tilt wheel has gotten tight. We usually tilt it getting in and out and all of a sudden one day when you try to tilt it up it feels wrong, like there is wires or a cable hanging up. You cannot get the key out either (if the wheel is up) every thing else works and if the wheel is anywhere from down to @3/4 tilt the key and all is fine. The fear here of course is if this gets worse, I have not found any info on this problem so I expect it's not something common. I sure hope someone has an idea thanks
