What is this white crap?

On my new 2011 Silverado, it's got that dark gray plastic lip on the tailgate and around the mirrors and it's got these light gray or white ... streaks or marks or something. I've tried scrubbing it off and nothing gets it. How do you restore the color?

I have the same problem. I have found that Meguires Interior and exterior trim restorer brings it back to new and I hardly have that white streak problem now.

Is the white stuff from when they waxed it? If so the Mr. Clean magic earser takes that off.

That's most likely what it is....You clean it and think it's gone, then whatever you cleaned it with is dry it shows up again. It'll drive you crazy unless you use the magic eraser to remove it. Most other products only cover it up for a short time.

I've used a magic eraser to get wax residue off of trim and it works well. Just be careful and don't rub to much as some of the trim has a satin sheen to it and the eraser can remove the sheen and make it look flat in spots.

what they said. i finally got mine off with just a rag and degreaser, but i had to scrub a lot, and in all different directions because of the texture.
