CREE Fog Lamp Bulbs

Recommended Posts

Came across some CREE H16 / 5202 bulbs online. I put CREE's in my reverse and cargo lamps and think that they work great. These fog bulbs though are only 7w when stock are 24w, wonder if you'd need a load resistor to make the circuit work properly without some type of error message? Factory 5202 produce 500 lumens while these CREE produce 600 lumens.

I wonder if the color will be the same as the headlights

On my truck I installed those new Silverstar XID in both the high and low beams. Was thinking of doing the high beam & fog mod in the fuse box, but I noticed that the color difference from the fogs to headlights was so noticable that the stock fogs looked yellow. (I know that the only real true way of producing brighter headlamps is to go HID, but with nbs silverado's coming back into the dealership to get their headlamps working again, I decided to go the safer way.) I figured if I did that high & fog mod it would look silly with the color difference. So thats why I was looking into the CREE fogs because they are awesome in my reverse and cargo lamps.

I also found that Putco makes replacement bulbs, and after talking to a rep, they claim that their bulbs are 37.7w and produce more than 35 percent more light output compared to stock. So compared to stock those Putco are around 675 lumens.

Fred, I am curious to see how you like those fogs.

The main problem i see with 37w fog light bulbs is that they will probably melt the housing.... I like the idea of LEDs because they are low wattage and don't generate a lot of heat.

If the stock bulbs are 35watts I don't see how the 2.5watt difference is going to melt anything

Stock bulbs are 27 watts i believe.

I have HIDs in my fogs right now as well, but I am always open to new ideas and LEDs are cool....

Been seeing trucks come in lately that have HID's installed and one or numberous lights are out, and are still out after ballast and bulb replacements installed. Over time they start pulling a weird draw of amprerage and blowing fuses. Its easy to replace the fuse, but after a while the Totally Intergrated Power Module, fuse box, goes. Most of the time its the relay for the DRL and or the waterproof connections are being compramised are the cause. I'd rather be safe than sorry and not deal with any headaches...
