Truck has 9,000 miles and sounds great until engine gets warm then I hear a ticking sound on driver side fender well area ...kinda sounds like a exhaust valve pecking.this can't be normal!!! And ideas

I really don't think that the ticking sound hear is a major problem, however, if you noticed higher than normal oil consumption, lack of power, and blue smoke, please have it checked out. I heard some much about this 5.3 ticking interpreted as a piston slap which is bull. Since it's fairly new, let the dealer examine it. I'm sure it's nothing major that will shred your billfold. Some guy also told me regarding a ticking sound on an engine which is in good shape could be that the oil isn't thick enough, which again is bull.

OK I had Mobil 1 synthetic in the engine when it started ticking. Changed my oil and used castrol non synthetic and drove it on a 100 mile trip and now the ticking is gone. And I have always used ac delving filters

that is good news!

I had a similar problem and they ended up swapping my entire motor after several repair attempts, with no explanation to the source of the noise.
