Recommend subs for subthump box?

So time to retire my rockford fosgates 2 10" subs in a subthump box, looking so far at some alpines and the higher end kickers so far. Just wanted to see what anyone else might recommend for some snappy hard hitting bass so to speak. Thanks

I just put in a 500 watt alpine amp , and one JL audio 10W3V3-2. For 1 10", it hits amazing, and is extremely responsive. Best part is it barely takes up any room.

Heres a comparison of my old pioneer sub compared to the new jl..

I am a big fan of Image Dynamics. I have owned the IDQv2 series and currently own the IDv3 series. Great build quality, excellent sound quality, and they wont break the bank.

Cool thanks, I only have about 6.5" of depth to play which comes into play.

I have the same box, but 1 12 inch sub. Correct, you have 6.5 inches of depth, but make sure you look at the diameter of the magnet. I ran the Alpine Type 6 12 inch DVC sub, it fits as far as depth, but it wouldn't fit because the maget/basket was enormous. I spent at least a couple hours trying to shave off some wood around the indentation around the magnet cut out. I got it to work, but it was a pain. FYI only.

Well after a lot of decision making, going to go with the new Alpine sws10D4's.

It may be too late (as you may have already purchased your new subs) but look into Sundown Audio SA10's. The mounting depth is perfect for a subthump box and they sound awesome.

- First post!!! (I burn most of my time on DMAX forums LOL)

RE Audio SE's. I had two 12" RE SE's in my Subthump box. They wanted a bit more airspace, but if you have a 10" box, then you should go good to go. RE Audio's new revised SE's are now called the SEX's. Not sure why they named them that. They rebranded their entire new line with an X at the end like their RE's are now REX, etc... The SE's have great SQ and got loud doing it. Definitely one of my favorite subwoofers I have ever ran.

Alpines fit like a dream and sound great, but thank you for the other reccomendations. :)

Can you clarify on how well they sound? I am interested in how well the Type S's sound. What amp are you pushing them with. Good job on going with the Type S's above the Type R's. I only say this because the Type R's sound better in a ported box than a sealed box.

Sealed Box: Type S > Type R

Ported Box: Type S Type R (especially if tuned really low. R's get louder the lower they are tuned.)

The Type R's are one of my favorite subs. I had two 12's in a ported box tuned to 32hz and it was rediculously loud, had great Sound Quality and dove down low with authority.

This was my first true custom build I did in my Grand Am GT. I was 19 when I did this. Two Type R 12's in a ported box tuned to 32hz. I forgot how big the box was. Ran it off a JBL 1200.1 pushing 1450wrms (These amps were under rated anywhere from 1400-1520 wrms, with Alpine Type R Components powered by a Clarion APA4320 4 channel amp bridged to 160wrms x 2

I miss this car. It was an awesome car for when I was 18-20 years old. After hours after hours and days of searching for a new car, I didnt have a particular car in mind. I was just out to see what I liked, but this car caught my eye because of its paint job. From the distance I saw this dark metallic green car with the sun bouncing off metallic yellow, although you cant really see the yellow bouncing off in this picture. It was a cloudy day. I still love this color. Its a rare color that Pontiac came out with. Its called Spruce Green Metallic. This paint and Copperhead Pearl are my two favorite colors on a vehicle. I think if I were going to paint a vehicle Spruce Green Metallic, I would spice it up a bit with more yellow metallic in the paint. I also added 18" chrome wheels to this car.

Sorry, off topic with the car, but I just had a trip down memory lane with all of my pictures from the car lol

Thats cool, I get that way too sometimes. They sound good, hit nice and tight like a virgins ass lol. They're in a sealed box of course and running a old school rockford fosgate amp 1000 mono 1ch. I listen to techno/dance new age and old school music for the most part and the subs sound great. Like it was reccomended was the week or so break in period, I still have to do some minor adjusting on the amp for settings. I give them 4 stars!
