Be sure that you wrote down the right numbers i only came up with 3914660 which seems to be a 327.is it a 2 or 4 bolt main.

2 digits suffix codes are pre-1970 engines.

HI is one of 2 possible engines, 327 or 350.

1968 Impala 327-250 HP RPO L73 manual trans, 4-bbl card

Ty everyone, it is "GM 3914660". So from looking on afew sites it seems that this cast number works for the 327 and the 350 2 bolt main within the years of 68-79. Now the question is how do i tell which block i have. :P

Oh yeah pulled afew more cast numbers off the rear of the block :

T16

660

N

H4 638

T

if anybody has any info on id'ing the difference between the 68-79 327ci and the 350ci ..

thx again for the hlp

Update : after calling the buddy of mine the engine came from, he told me that it was more than likely a 327 block but if he recalls it has 350 heads and a 350 crank and is bored .30 over. not to sure but is that even possible.

the difference between the two was the crank stroke on later 327's. the 327 and the 350 both have a 4" bore. the 327 stroke was 3.250" and the 350 is 3.480" so IMO if it had 350 heads, 350 crank then you have a 350 motor..when GM came out with the 350, they still had a boat load of 327 blocks. so saving on recasting new ones it was cheaper to just make new cranks. and the older 327's came factory stock with forged cranks and rods, small main bearings. with a good balancing it was good to over 7500+ rpm
