Remove road paint from tires

I was momentarily stopped in a left turn lane in Twin Falls, Idaho when a road painting crew passed the line of turning vehicles on our right side in the through lane. Not thinking anything of it (I stupidly assumed, because road painting often takes place while other traffic is around, that the sprayed paint would be restricted/directed to the roadway lines), I continued on my trip (pulling a travel trailer on vacation). The day was hotter than Hades with absolutely no breeze.

At my next stop, hundreds of miles farther down the highway, while gassing up, I found all four tires on the passenger side had been dusted with white paint. As I was travelling and restricted to a schedule, I could not do a cleaning for another two days. However, when I did try to hand wash the tires, the paint would not come off.

Can anyone provide the name of a good product that will take road paint off tires without being too aggressive on the rubber??

Paint Thinner.

if they were permanent epoxy resin pavement markings i dont know if its that easy, otherwise thats what we would use when they need to be removed from the pavement. they need to be grinded out of the pavement for them to be removed. it might be different being laid on rubber though.

Paint thinner was one of the first things that popped into my head, but I was unsure, as BigBlueSilvy notes, if conventional methods would apply as that type of paint is designed to withstand heavy traffic and all kinds of heat and weather. I was also not sure if thinner would have any adverse effect on tire rubber. I will give it a try on a small area and see how it works.

The thing that p****s me off the most is the trailer is not even two years old and the Sierra is less than four months old.......

Thanks for the comments.
