265/60R20 on a 1500....

Soooo I have found a set of tires, new take-offs, for cheap.. however the size on them is 265/60R20 (off a 2012 Silverado 2500). Now I have looked around... and its a REAL odd size.. like there's not that many manufacturers out there.. but I checked, and it IS the factory tire size.

 

Anyway, calculating the measurements compared to my stock 275/55/20's....

 

Tire width: 10.82in. vs. 10.43in. on the new

Overall diameter: 31.9in. vs 32.5in on the new

Rim widths on both are 7.5-9.5in.

 

 

So... with the less width, and slightly more height.. technically, they shouldn't rub?

 

Plus they are an LT tire, load range E, and not a P tire like my 275's. That being said, they run at a higher PSI (About 50-55) so will that send my TPMS into an error?

I think they'll fit, but you may need to trim just a little plastic because of the extra height. You could always throw on a leveling kit and then you'd be fine for sure. As far as your TPMS, you'll need to get the 'magic number' reprogrammed for somewhere like 45-50 psi....because right now it's looking for 30 psi to make it happy. It will think you're running too much pressure when you get your new tires. When I switch to Load range E tires on my truck, I had it reset to look for 45 psi....that way I could run 40-45 psi all the time...and bump to 50-55 psi when towing....and the TPMS didn't have a fit.

Who can reset the TPMS to recognize a higher pressure in the tires? I have an autocal and may need to reprogram mine when I switch to the the Cooper ATP or Zeon 275/60/20 since they will need a little more pressure than 30.

I had mine done at the dealer when they changed my oil.

The dealer def can. Pretty much any reputable tire chain there should have the tools to reset it. At least here they do.
