Installing Steering Wheel Audio Controls

Recommended Posts

Hi All-

Jason Pendulum has been very helpful and answered some questions for me about the Steering Wheel Audio Control kits. I think I want to buy one for my Tahoe. My concern however, is pulling the steering wheel and disabling the airbag (what if when it was all back together, the air bag didn't work). I know the instructions are detailed, but has anyone actually done it? What did you think of it? How was it once it was all back together? Did it look ok, or does it look like it doesn't belong, etc?

Thanks

I did this on our Suburban as well as on our Z71,  no problems to speak of.

The instructions are great.  Plan on about 4 hours total taking your time.  (will probably only take 3)

I installed the JP Customs kit on my Silverado and had no problems.  Make sure the SRS coil (if I'm remembering the name right) is installed in the correct position or you wont be able to reinstall the top plastic part that covers the steering column (the finish piece).  Plan to go slow and have plenty of time, but it's straight forward and not complicated.  Good Luck.

Thanks Guys. Does the kit use scotch locks at all? I used them from 2 R&D kits I just installed. I hate them as I'm always afraid they'll cut the actual wire over time, and not the insulation only.
