What's wrong with my brakes?

I don't want to take it to the dealer if I don't have to. 2004 GMC 2500 HD. Only 57,000 miles. Right rear wheel as it turns makes a weird noise.

I raised the rear of the truck and turned the wheel by hand and for part of each rotation it will make a noise. Not a bad bearing type of noise. It doesn't make a squealing kind of noise. It's a brake type of noise. It's pretty loud. The pads are nice and thick on the inside and outside and I can see the sqeal tabs aren't even close so it's not that.

So what else could the noise be associated with that area right at the wheel. It has rear disks.

Thanks.

Taking a wild guess here, but is there something hanging up on a dust shield or the like? I honestly don't even remember for certain if the rears have dust shields.

my experience is something in parking brake shoes/ hardware- had same problem- took rotor off and found pad worn and metal rubbing on inner drum.
