2001 to 2006 Engine Swap

As far as electronics, what needs to be done to swap engines from 2001 to 2006?

 

I'll be swapping over my cable throttle body so that won't be an issue. Swapping from a 2001 4.8 to a 2006 LQ9 if it matters.

I would say computer. I know it will swap fine with a 03 and up just needs the computer reflashed. I plan on doing a LQ4 with L92 heads and hot cam to mine. You will have to have a custom tune if you are still going to run a 4L60E. LQ9 trucks had the 4L65E and the 4L80E if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I know I'll need a tune. The LQ9 came mated to the 4L65E, so it should work...maybe not well, but long enough to drive to the shop.

 

I'm wondering more about sensors and electrical connectors. Just trying to make sure that since the trucks are different electrically from 2003 on, what sensors and other electrical components I should swap over from my old engine.

I would swap o2 sensors and knock sensors. Crank position possibly to be safe

that engine will tear up your 4L60 especially if its the original with 300k+ on it

 

anyway, are you planning to do the swap yourself? where did you get the 6.0 and for how much?

I know i can get a LQ4 short block in new/reman condition for $1700 Im the type that wants to pick the parts in it

id love to do a 6.0 swap in my 03 but it just seems to much of a PITA, rather just have a new truck

My trans is getting built right now. It won't have a problem with the 6.0...it'll be a pretty stout build.

 

To answer your question, I got my 6.0 used from an individual. It's even an LQ9 too!

 

It'll be getting tuned, and hopefully cammed sometime in the somewhat near future.
