On my mom's car, when we drive it it makes a rumbling sound (kind of like big muddin' tires do on the highway). She thinks it's either the wheel bearings, or skortched Brake Rotor. What do yall think?

Front or rear drive?

Rotors, wheel bearings, u-joints.

Does it go away at speed or continue to increase?

How about different gears? Could be the tranny or rear end.

We need a little more info.

'86 Honda Accord (Front wheel drive).

The noise is in the Left Front. The noise is at it's worst at speeds. It sounds like a jacked up pickuptruck rumbling down the highway.

Is that info enough?

Without actually hearing it myself, I would guess a halfshaft or wheel bearing.

Unless the sound disappears under braking, I would not suspect the rotor.

Check for a cupped tire. I had this happen twice to my wife's Blazer. The first time the tires were almost shot. I thought it might be a bad tire, because the tread was getting down. I replaced the old tires and sure enough it went away. Well 2 months later it comes back but on both axels one bad sounding tire (like mudders). Took it to the tire place to check the tires and they were cupped. Long story short (yea right) bad shocks on the Blazer, tire was bouncing at high speed and cupping the tire. I replaced the shocks and the noise went away in about 2 months. (Wore cupping marks away).

i had a friends car sound the same, he had the bearing replace and it fixed the noise.  he thought at first it was the tires going bad but he replaced them and it didnt fix it.
