FYI: iPhone 5/iOS 6 & Pioneer: UPDATE

Pioneer has completed additional testing of its products and says a firmware update will be coming soon for 6 of its Bluetooth radios to allow them to work with an iPhone 4 or 4S running the new iOS 6 update.

 

The new firmware update will restore a radio’s ability to control the phone over Bluetooth and display song data on the radio.

 

 

“We are currently working on this firmware update and will release ETA information soon,” said a report to retailers. Pioneer’s other Bluetooth products do not need a firmware update, it said.

 

For the iPhone 5, several of Pioneer’s radios have lost functionality.

 

Five Pioneer radios will not play music from an iPhone 5 or show metadata and control track up/down. Some will no longer work with Pandora. Pioneer’s AppRadio mode also is not supported when connected to an iPhone 5. The 5 radios include the AVH-P8400BH, the AVIC-X940BT, the AVIC-Z140BH and the AppRadio and AppRadio 2.

 

Pioneer noted that 14 of its other radios continue to play and control music from an iPhone 5 when using the new Lightning cable that ships with the phone.

 

Because Apple has switched to digital video output instead of analog video, every car audio supplier we polled said its radios cannot reproduce video from an iPhone 5, including Pioneer.

 

Additionally, Apple has not yet made suppliers aware of any future adapters that will restore composite video, as used by most car radios.

I haven't heard from any manufacturer that got it in advance.

 

You would think that would be pretty important, wouldn't you?

I have enough trouble with my i4 with iOs 5, ive already sworn off the the i5. Without being able to transmit controls, pandora or video over the cable mu hookup is no good to my pioneer
