Thoughts on center caps?

Hey guys,

Just looking for some input on center caps. I picked up some 18" OEM chevy rims for cheap to mount some winter tires on, which didn't come with center caps. Turns out it's gonna cost me about 180 bucks after tax to buy a set of 4 from the dealership and online prices don't seem to be much better once shipping is factored in. It seems that there's some debate online as to whether the center caps actually do anything beyond cosmetics (i.e protect the nuts and such from rusting faster).

So here's my dilemma. My truck is GMC, so paying 180 bucks for the bowtie seems kinda dumb if it's only for looks. I bought these wheels for winter, they don't have to look good. And as far as I can tell, none of the GMC caps fit.

Is it worth leaving the caps off? Will I regret not spending 180 bucks in 3 or 4 years when everything (may) be corroded and shitty? Can I just spray on some corrosion inhibitor and call it good?

thanks in advanced
