2001 Crew Cab and Airbags

Ok I got a question ...has anyone tried to add the Passenger Airbag key switch to there truck ?

The owners manual says a child is ok in the front seat as long as the seat is all the way back and not in a rear facing car seat......

I take my daughter with me alot just me and her and I usually let her sit up with me but we have a few rules........but still I would like to be able to turn it off........You'd think one out of a Ex cab or reg. cab would just plug in all you would have to do is get it keyed?

I think I remember it being done before...  I look and see if I can't find the info for you.  Hopefully someone else has the info handy and can jump in and pass "the word".

As far as I know it would just plug in and not have to be keyed. I had a company truck from my previous employer and the keys would work in either airbag switch.

Is there a fuse you can pull? I did that in one of my trucks.  The airbag light stays on, but it disabled it!  But that one fuse may go to other things too.

We just had a customer buy a vette and she gets her airbag turned off by a co. here in Dallas. You can call some dealerships in the your to see if they know anyone that will install an on off switch, but i'm positive they won't do it for liability reasons (we won't).

I realy don't like messing with the airbags at all.  I install some alarms and such, and I make it a point not to touch or disconnect any of the airbag wiring.  I've heard that they have gone off in the past when installers mess with the wiring.  If you do decide to get it done, maybe have a professional do it, or follow the directions to a T!

I had my dealer run my '03 vin number to get the right switch.  The wiring is hanging behind the dash.  It's a $60.00 part for the switch.  I haven't gotten it yet and am unsure how to plug it in without accidentally setting it off.  I want to ask a body shop first.  They must know of a safe way to deal with airbags and wiring.

Thanks Everyone..I am going out to the body shop to have my Visor painted and installed and will ask what they think..I don't see think it would be a big deal.....I tried my key to lock out the airbag in a buddies work truck and it worked......
