Not just fuel, add up maintenance (oil, tires, brakes, other fluids, car washes), the various modifications we do

Yeah..well....at least we ENJOY IT! You only live once after all.

I bought a Mustang 5.0 LX in 87, brand new. By June of 91, that car had warranty repairs and insurance claims that exceeded $61K, not including the $13k I paid for the car. Highlights were 4 engines, two transmissions, 3 differentials, many, many trips for squeaks and rattles, car was broken into every time it was at dealers for repairs, plus once while I was at a movie, car stolen once and recovered. Three sets of wheels and tires, 4 stereos taken over the 4 years. Best part was I was buying stereos at cost, insurance was replacing at retail. By the time the car was stolen, the stereo was worth more than I paid for the car initially.. Car was stolen the day I went in for my first back surgery, and was recovered later that night. Cops got upset that I would not come get it at midnight, had to put the nurse on the phone to explain. Insurance company wrote the car off after it was recovered.
