President Bush

I don't know how many of you saw his speech tonight, but I was impressed.

He spoke very highly of rescue workers, New Yorkers, and the Nation as a whole.

He also stated that we would bring terrorists to justice, or bring justice to them and demanded that the Taliban surrender Bin Laden, shut down terrorist training camps, and stop supporting the terrorists. These demands are not open to negotiation. He said that we are "at war" with terrorism and any nations or governments that support, harbor, or defend terrorists and/or terrorist acts are our enemies. Any nation that is not with us is against us.

He also said that the US Military needs to "be ready".

He spoke very highly of Islam and condemned any violent acts against Islamic people, noting that we are not at war with Islam, just terrorists.

I can't remember much stuff verbatim, that's why I didn't quote him directly. It was a very moving, powerful speech. I hope we have the means to back it up.

Remember folks, Islam is a religion of peace. Terrorism is NOT part of their doctrine. Don't label people in America as "Ragheads" or "Friggin' Muslims" just because they look to be Middle Eastern or North African. That is just as bad as what Bin Laden and his network has done to us.

We are all Americans; color and ethnic origin can't change that. So when you see a couple of rednecks giving a dark skinned person a hard time, have the guts to stop them. This country is for ALL Americans, no matter where you're from.

I too was very impressed.  You could tell by the look in his eyes and the way he spoke that he meant what he was saying, he just wasn't reading what a script writer had put on paper for him.  He is really showing us that he is the real deal now.  People may say he doesn't do public speaking very well, but he sure seemed to be pretty good at it tonight at least.

I agree, the president gave a great speach tonight.  Very strong words and actions through out.  Only part I didn't like was the Congress interrupting him all the time, and thats not his fault.  I would just prefer to hear everything he has to say, and then they can applaud.

Yep that speech was very good.  He had fire in his eyes.

I hated when they kept standing up and clapping.  Wait till hes done.

I really liked they introduced the wife of the guy who foiled the plans of the terrorists on the flight that went down in penn.

Glad i voted for bush.

Glad i voted for bush.

I voted for him too.  For a while after the elections I was kind of indifferent to the job he was doing, it didn't seem like he was really changing much.  Now I'm happy as can be that a Texan is in there and taking charge.  My fear is that if Gore would be there we'd be apologizing to those responsible about their hijackers being killed or some BS like that instead of tending to the job at hand.

Amen !!!!!  I've been saying the same thing since this happened.  I'm glad to say I voted for him too.  Heck I'm proud to say I voted for his dad when Clinton beat him.  I wasn't old enough to vote the first time his dad ran or I would've voted for him then.

I was really impressed with his speech as well.  I like to hear him speak.  When he does flub up sometimes it just shows that he's human, not one of these robots that we usually hear from.  I can't say enough about the job he's done.  I think he's doing great.

I don't agree......:sneek:

I think we left the doors open to this country for too long and people who weren't interested in becoming American were allowed in without close enough scrutiny.

While I like the image of G-Dubya pulling on his old Texas cowboy boots and getting knee deep in somebody's @ss, the people who react favorably to him now are like the converted atheists in the foxholes.  Scared hypocrites.  He was not very popular or respected on Sept. 10th, and by saying what's popular now, he's become more popular.  That's quite an achievement.

My opinion is not real PC, but I refuse to spread my legs, like some cheap whore, for his promises of retribution and justice.  He was a clueless buffoon who accidently got into office, but had the good advice to surround himself with the very best advisors.  I wouldn't have bought a car from him on Sept. 10th and I'm not buying his deer in the headlights, puppet on a string BS now.

BTW, sugar coating is not my strong point -

Actually I had alot of respect for him on Sept. 10th.  And I had alot of respect for him during the election.  I've liked him the whole time.  As for it being an accident, I think the only accident would've been if they let that screw up Gore buy, cheat, or whatever it was he was trying, his way into office.  If people would listen a little Bush had some good ideas.  Yes, he had some bad ones too, but they all do.  He had some wonderful ideas for this country, but people couldn't get past the fact that he wasn't the greatest public speaker.  Big Freakin' Deal !!!!!  If it weren't for people running that crap in the ground and all the tree hugging hippies his image wouldn't be near as bad.  People might actuall y hear his good ideas.  Anyway, that's just my opinion, and everybody has their own.  Just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't "spreading my legs, like some cheap whore".  I'm just glad I voted for somebody who has the guts to stand up and fight back, Gore would've tucked tail and ran I'm sure.

I saw about half the speech.  I really thought that it was a good speech, but I couldn't watch anymore.  It was going to slow because they spent as much time clapping as bush did speaking.

Elwood-

My intent was not so much to offend those who voted for Bush, but to point out that the tree hugging, blind loyalists of Gore that now have pushed GW's approval rating to the moon, are insufferable hypocrites.  Furthermore, Howie Mandel could have addressed the nation, saying we will retaliate quickly and severely, and become the most popular man in the country and revered as a great leader.

I fully agree that EVERY man who has held that office has hit some homers and struck out.  But he hasn't earned my respect just by being a propped up puppet, relating to the US people, that we will respond.  Which is not to say that over the duration of his term, that he won't evolve into a truly great leader.  But the old advice of not judging someone too fast goes both ways.  Lets see more than a few impassioned speeches, (and I have no doubts that he feels very passionate about all of this) before we annoint him the next FDR.

To reiterate, those that now jump on his bandwagon, hanging on his every word, despite bashing him 2 weeks ago, are in my mind, doing the leg spreading, because they have no political conviction or personal character. I stated this in another post and I'll repeat here.  I am not a GW fan, but I do support the office of President, and will fully support any man elected to that office despite my personal or political opinions of that man.  That is our duty and responsibility as Americans.

Hopefully, this healthy exchange between Elwood and myself, has not offended anyone.  I don't think either of us will change the other's mind, but I appreciate the space and opportunity to express my opinions and would defend Elwood's right to express his opinion, even though it's not exactly mine -
