Paint chrome bumper?

I just got a new crew cab with the Z71 appearance package. The chrome rear bumper is bothering me because everything else on the truck is color matched (white). Is it possible to paint the chrome (not me, a body shop) or would I have to buy a new steel bumper that's primered. If anyone has done this how much have you spent on this project... And I did see someone wrapped their bumper and I don't want to do that, I feel it may not be durable. Thanks for the input

Shouldn't be hard at all. I plan to do the same to my truck after the snow melts. Disassemble bumper, sandblast chrome off, prime, paint and reassemble. I'm also going to spay bed liner on the inside to combat corrosion.

Ok I just got a quote today to get the rear bumper sandblasted an power coated white for $100-$125. I thought that sounded like a good deal. Now my new dilemma, my back up sensors. My factory ones are silver/chrome ( to match the bumper). I called the local GMC dealer to buy sierra denali sensors (painted white) and they only come primered AND you have to paint them AND they are $210 each! So, is it possible to primer and paint over my factory sensors without loosing their function?

I don't see why not. If you have to paint the factory units you should be able to color match yours. You could possibly do it with a couple of rattle cans from your local parts store.

GM actually makes summit white rattle cans you can purchase or special order from the parts department at your local dealer. I ordered one for now. Going to use it for my next project which is sanding and painting my tailgate handle to match the others
